THE ISKAR flows through seven provinces of Bulgaria: the capital city of Sofia, Sofia Province, Pernik Province, Vratsa Province, Pleven Province and Lovech Province. This is the main source of water for Sofiyskavoda, the water and sewarage company in Sofia.

In terms of geology, the Iskar is the oldest river in the Balkans and also the only one to have preserved its original direction despite the significant geological changes in later stages.

THE CITY OF VRATSA is one of the most picturesque cities in the country. It is nestled in the foothills of "Vrachanski Balkan" (Vratsa Mountain), with the Leva river calmly crossing the city and with fearful rocks overhanging the roofs. The mountains and forests are suitable for the development of different tourism types — hunting and fishing, skiing, spelaeological, delta-gliding, photo-tourism, etc.

The area has very diverse and attractive natural features, which together with the recreation opportunities gives the special charm of the Eastern part of the Northwest Bulgaria. On the territory of the State Forestry territory Vratsa are located several protected natural attractions and historical monuments.

VIDIN - the town of Vidin is situated on the bank of the Danube River, on its big curve in the most northwestern corner of Bulgaria. It is one of the oldest Bulgarian towns. There one can see Baba Vida Fortress-Museum-the biggest historical sight of Vidin and the best-preserved medieval Bulgarian fortress in the country; the Mausoleum of the first Bulgarian Ekzarh Antim I; the library of Osman Pazvantooglu (from about 1800 and monumental construction with original oriental architecture and woodcarving), etc.
